Project Runway

I absolutely adore Project Runway. I have been a follower since season 1, and if I could sew, I definitely would try out for it! I am even more excited for the next season of Project Runway because I know several designers who I have been able to work with closely here in Denver that are trying out! It is time Denver is put on the fashion map. Trust me, we are so much more than Crocs and REI sweaters!

But back to last night's season finale. As you know, the top three designers show their collections on the finale and the winner is chosen. What you might not know is that depending on where in the season the show is as it coincides with Fashion Week, all of the designers that are still in the competition show a collection so that the final three are not leaked. This season started later on TV, so when Fashion Week occurred, there were 11 contestants still on the show, so 10 designers showed collections (since Maya quit). I thought I would share my favorite pieces from the Project Runway designers:

Seth Aaron

I love Seth Aaron's tailoring skills. Every jacket he has made on the show I want to own. His final collection did not disappoint. I loved his use of patterns and colors. I always picture someone like Gwen Stefani or even Lady Gaga wearing his clothes around town.

Emilio Sosa

Emilio's collection reminded me of something you could walk into Macy's and buy right away. It was very wearable, and it definitely had some pieces I would purchase. I also loved the way he used color, especially has lining in the jackets.

Mila Hermanovski

I will admit I was not a huge Mila fan, and really wanted Jay to be in the final three. However, I found myself loving her final collection. I loved how she played with different shapes, silhouettes and textures. And I really want the black trench coat.

The other collections you did not see on TV:

Anthony Williams

Jay Nicolas Sario

Amy Sarabi

Jesse LeNoir

Ben Chmura

Jonathan Peters

Janeane Marie Ceccanti

It was a great season, and I think this was one of the strongest top 3 collections of all seasons. I will miss you Project Runway, and cannot wait until the next one. Here's to hoping that someone from Denver is finally chosen!

Talent, dun dun dun...

The talent competition is a very important aspect of competing for Miss America. For me, it is probably the most stressful. I think the hardest part is figuring out how to entertain the judges, and finding something that sets you apart from everyone else. I am a dancer. I grew up doing ballet, but when I reached 5th grade, I decided that I wanted to play soccer more than I wanted to dance. I should of stuck with dance. I messed up my knee pretty badly playing soccer, and in high school, decided to switch back to dance. After I graduated though, I stopped dancing all together. I can definitely thank competing for Miss Colorado last year for getting back into dancing. I have found a studio that I love, and I enjoy taking a variety of classes. It is a fun way to work out, stay limber and I just love that I am dancing again!

I will say that this years talent has been choreographed, and now I am just practicing it over and over to make sure its perfect. For my talent last year, I decided to salsa dance. I had never truly salsa danced before, but I had always wanted to take lessons. I worked very closely with Bridget Ellis of Bridget Ellis Dance. She is an amazing salsa dancer and was very fun to work with. She was patient with my lack of hip shaking skills, and overall, I had so much fun learning salsa and performing my talent. I have even had the chance to perform for different student showcases. Now I am no pro salsa dancer, but this performance is not too bad for someone who had only been salsa dancing for 8 weeks, right?

Wanna take salsa lessons and are in the Denver area?
Check out Bridget Ellis Dance!
